A WebLogic Server cluster consists of several instances of WebLogic Server running simultaneously and working together to provide greater scalability and reliability. Clients see a cluster as a single instance of WebLogic Server. The server instances that make up a cluster can run on the same machine or be located on different machines. You can increase a cluster's capacity by adding additional server instances to the cluster on an existing machine, or you can add machines to the cluster to host the incremental server instances. Each server instance in a cluster must run the same version of WebLogic Server.
Transparent Application Failover (TAF) is available in the connection from WebLogic to the back-end database. To use TAF, database connections must use the thick JDBC client, and the back-end database must run Real Application Clusters. When WebLogic sends a request to the back-end database, it is assigned to an instance in the RAC cluster. That database instance will execute the request and return the response. If the assigned database instance fails (even in the middle of processing the request), TAF will detect it and automatically route the request to another instance in the database cluster.
Providing the maximum availability architecture of Oracle is one of the key requirements for any enterprise deployment of Oracle Fusion Middleware. Oracle Fusion Middleware includes a comprehensive set of high availability features, such as process death detection and restart, server clustering, server migration, clusterware integration, GridLink, load balancing, failover, backup and recovery, continuous updates, and continuous configuration changes, aiming for an enterprise deployment that minimizes both unplanned downtime and planned downtime.
The Oracle Fusion Middleware Disaster Recovery solution uses storage replication technology for disaster protection of the Oracle Fusion Middleware middleware components. It supports hot-pluggable deployments and is compatible with vendor-recommended solutions.
Disaster protection for the Oracle databases included in your Oracle Fusion Middleware is provided through Oracle Data Guard.
