Oracle Corporation

Oracle Corporation is a company specializing in the development of both cloud and on-premises solutions. Oracle is headquartered in Austin, Texas. According to the 2006 rankings, it holds the top position in the database category and is ranked seventh globally among information technology companies. Oracle's technology is used across multiple industries worldwide and is present in the offices of 98 of the Fortune 100 companies.

Oracle (Nasdaq: ORCL) is the first software company to develop and deploy fully internet-enabled applications for businesses across its product line, including databases, business applications, application development tools, and decision-support systems. Oracle is the global leader in software for information management, well ahead of its nearest competitor in this segment, Software AG.

History

Larry Ellison, Ed Oates, and Bob Miner founded a consulting company in 1977 called Software Development Laboratories (SDL), later securing a contract with the CIA to design a special database system with the code name "Oracle."

Ellison and Miner had read an article in the IBM Journal of Research and Development that described an early version of the SQL language, based on E.F. Codd’s relational model proposal: "A Relational Model of Data for Large Shared Data Banks."

IBM had permitted Codd's work to be published after unsuccessfully attempting to create an IBM System R RDBMS, which also relied on Codd's theories. However, IBM refused to share System R's code. The initial version of Oracle was labeled version 2; there was no Oracle 1, as the version number was intended to imply that all prior issues had already been resolved.

The partners founded Oracle with $1,400 of their own money under the name Software Development Laboratories (SDL). In 1979, the company was renamed Relational Software Inc., eventually rebranding to Oracle after the success of its flagship database product. The name was inspired by an Intelligence project to which they had sold the database.

In the early 21st century, after successfully overcoming competitors like Informix and Sybase, Oracle enjoyed industry dominance until Microsoft SQL Server gained ground in the late 1990s, and IBM acquired Informix Software in 2001 to bolster its DB2 database.

Today, Oracle's primary competition in new database licenses on UNIX, Linux, and Windows operating systems is IBM's DB2 and Microsoft SQL Server, which primarily runs on Windows but has also been available for Linux since 2017. IBM's DB2 continues to dominate the mainframe database market.

In September 2014, Oracle's founder, Larry Ellison, stepped down as CEO, assuming roles as Executive Chairman of the Board and Chief Technology Officer. He was succeeded by Safra Catz and Mark Hurd as Co-CEOs.

In 2018, the company announced the launch of Oracle Autonomous Database, considered the first autonomous database.

What is Oracle?

Oracle offers a range of leading solutions for both on-premises and cloud-based installations to meet data management requirements for small and medium-sized enterprises and large global corporations. This includes the Oracle Database and Oracle Big Data Cloud systems.

The Oracle database system is composed of a collection of data managed as a single unit. Its primary purpose is to store and retrieve related information, making a database server the key to solving information management challenges.

What Does It Offer?

The Oracle Cloud System provides various Big Data services and deployment models, adapting to business needs over time, scaling along with it, and ensuring an appropriate balance between capacity and cost.

Big Data Cloud Service and Big Data SQL Cloud Service are synonymous with flexibility, combining Oracle's analytic technology with the leading Hadoop distribution in a transparent, integrated, and secure Data Lake, available for public and private clouds.

From experiencing automation in a tailored environment for your business's analytic capabilities (Big Data Cloud Service) to leveraging existing SQL skills, security policies, and applications to analyze information in Oracle's database, NoSQL, and Hadoop systems with extreme performance (Oracle Big Data SQL), the Oracle System makes the benefits of working with big data accessible to the widest possible range of end users.

Present Day

Over time, Oracle Cloud has become one of the most popular cloud computing services due to Oracle Corporation's focus on efficiency in day-to-day operations. This service encompasses the idea of providing users with quality storage, tools, networking, and servers through IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS infrastructure.

What Benefits Does Oracle Offer Your Business?

1. Agility:

This means access to new opportunities provided by massive economies of scale or expanded infrastructure. It enables you to respond to an increasingly demanding market, maximizing the value of business data, talent, and expertise with the advantages of cloud computing.

2. Superior Performance:

Productivity rises when working with Oracle Cloud, partly because downtime is minimized. This advantage also boosts brand image, leading to increased revenue.

3. Guaranteed Security:

Advanced techniques, combined with others like data encryption or layered security management, protect the organization’s most valuable asset. Threats are kept under control, and Oracle Cloud

also ensures rapid disaster recovery, preserving every bit of information.

4. Reduced Complexity:

Avoids obsolescence, capacity limitations, and issues caused by software updates. Oracle Cloud aims to simplify interactions while boosting efficiency, ensuring system scalability, solution dynamism, innovation, and business adaptability.

5. Differentiation:

Personalization is key to retaining clients, achieving satisfaction, and attracting new market segments. Oracle Cloud's infrastructure allows you to focus on the customer, freeing up time and resources from tasks like system maintenance and solution deployment.

If you're still not convinced about implementing Oracle, here are some important final points about this system:

First, Oracle’s philosophy is backed by action, with 34 years in the market proving its effectiveness in secure enterprise management.

This proactive approach to database security comes from Oracle’s ability to eliminate human intervention and error by autonomously provisioning, protecting, securing, backing up, recovering data, troubleshooting, and optimizing the database.

On the other hand, Oracle offers updates and patches automatically during its execution. The self-protection provided by Oracle offers total security against internal and external malicious attacks. Applying security updates for business management that allow you to keep the database protected from cyber attacks, continuously encrypting the data.

Secondly, Oracle’s support service is another key reason to choose it for business management through its technological solutions. It includes preventive alerts, risk analysis on demand, and patch and configuration recommendations.

Oracle offers rapid assistance to resolve issues through continuous access to Oracle’s knowledge base, technical support, Auto Service Request, priority service request management, remote diagnosis, and a two-hour on-site hardware service. Oracle provides real, worldwide support, making it accessible for business management wherever you are.

Third, a growing company, or one that is determined to grow, must be aware of the value of data. Data is extremely valuable, so business management must ensure that it is handled in a way that protects it. In addition, the following must also be taken into account

that protection must at the same time provide flexibility for data management, in an efficient way, whose efficiency means security and continuous protection.

Oracle provides the most integrated, complete, and secure database and data management solution for any deployment type. Whether on-premises or managed in data centers or the cloud, Oracle guarantees access to consistent database technology worldwide without compromising security.
